Biggest Halibut caught on the Kenai Peninsula this year 102 pounds, by Moi

I hardly batted an eye when the ululating shriek rang out. Sitting there, thinking to myself ” I didn’t burn that stockpot THAT badly”, I heard the screams transform into a stream of invective that would have done a seven-hash-mark Marine Master Gunner proud. While the sight of a sweet little 14 year old girl cussing like a broke syphilitic sailor cracks me up, part of the crappy deal with her parents that allows her to work there and save me from dishwasher hands requires me to monitor her comportment and adjust it accordingly. Unlimbering my 2×4, I headed to the kitchen to get the mule’s attention.
Arriving in the kitchen, I found Master Gunner Hello Kitty pointing out the back door and gabbling like a gut-shot turkey. Looking out the door, what do I see? A pair of adorable brown bear cubs digging something up in the back 40. I look at at the girl like she’s nuts; a native Alaskan, she explains to the retarded adult that where bear cubs are, big bad-tempered mommy-bear is sure to be, too. We never did see mom, but I got a few pics of the cubs. They are kinda crappy due to the fact it was twilight (about midnight, this time of year). Enjoy.

Time to Take a Blog Nap
Posted in Uncategorized on April 23, 2009 by intothegreatland
This blog will be going quiet for the next week or so, as I make the road trip from California to Kenai, Alaska. I’ll be trying to get there, as opposed to touristing along, and I’ll doubt I’ll have much time to write blog posts. And of course, the Alcan highway is not a hotbed of internet connectivity. Never fear, I plan to take pics and use the voice memo function on my phone to take notes (if any are deliriously funny I’ll post em), so that I can write a really kick ass post on the trip once I arrive. Hopefully the quality of this blog will take an upturn at that time, as this IS an Alaska blog, and I think it would help to be in Alaska when writing it.
So relax, and look forward to my triumphant return.
See you soon.

Man oh man, you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this. Probably 6 months ago Meathead offered up this idea and I swore to the Norwegian Meat Gods I would carry it through. Rarely do I jump in to any holiday with themed recipes or foods for Meathenge, but this warranted my attention. How could anyone pass up the opportunity to cook rabbit for the Easter holiday?
