Blast from the Past-North to Alaska April 25, 2008
I’ll be heading to Alaska soon to take on a new job. I’ll be both a Fishing/Hunting Lodge Chef and a Hunting Camp Boss. As a Lodge Chef, I’ll be preparing top-notch food for our guests using the freshest and finest of local ingredients, including the ones I kill or forage myself.
As a Camp Boss, I’ll be making sure our guests are sheltered, fed, and not eaten. I’ve cooked for a living for 23 years, but this will be the first job I’ve had that will require me to bear a firearm. I’m handy with the guns, but it remains to be seen if that holds true when I’m being charged by a grizzly bear. Hopefully we will never find out, and the odds are with me. There has already been one bear mauling this year in the area I’ll be working in, and that make me a liiiitle nervous.
Editor Note: The bear camp idea never took off, so I did most of my cooking in a kitchen.
